Student of the Week – Isaiah V.


What grade are you in?

I am a senior.

What is your position on the team?

I am a member of the safety team.

What have you been working on?

Making a safety binder for our pits at competition.

What are you after graduation plans? College? Major?

I plan on working for my family’s company as a mechanic.

You have 3 wishes after being stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean. What would you wish for and why?

A pet velociraptor that obeys me because it’s awesome. A machine capable of converting sand into whatever meals I want, so I have food. Finally, a desalination machine for water.

What’s the stupidest movie you’ve ever watched and why?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I watched it for Stronghold.


Mentor of the Week – Mrs. Miller


What do you do on the team?
I am the Head Operations Mentor. I help with chairman’s, awards, and keeping students on track.

How long have you been on the team?
I started on the team as a student in 2008/2009, mentored some after graduating high school, and returned as a full time mentor in 2017.

What’s your favorite part about being on Red Alert?
I enjoy working with the students and seeing them grow through their FIRST journey.

What do you do outside of robotics?
I am the FIRST Senior Mentor for Central Indiana. I also enjoy spending time with my husband/family, cooking, and watching movies.

What is your favorite Star Wars character, and why?
My favorite Star Wars character is Kylo Ren. He has an awesome lightsaber, and I think he still has potential to be good.

If you were to start a band, what would the band name be?
My band name would be The Nerd Herd.

Student of the Week – Josh S.


What grade are you in?
I am a sophomore.

What is your position on the team?
I am on the scoring subteam.

What have you been working on?
I have been working on proof of concepts for grabbing the power cube.

What is your favorite part of Red Alert?
I enjoy being able to work on a large robot with a team.

What are your after graduation plans? College? Major?
After graduation, I plan to go to college to study some type of engineering.

What is your favorite memory from a FIRST competition?
My favorite memory from a FIRST competition was seeing all the international teams at worlds last year.

What hobbies do you have outside of FIRST?
Outside of FIRST, I like to read, play video games, and watch Netflix.

FIRST Power Up!

Fall Offseason

This fall, Red Alert took part in two offseason events. The first event was Indy RAGE, which is an all girls FRC competition. Our girls won the Design Award, and were finalists along with teams 4103-Roborioles, 1501-Team THRUST, 3947-The Last Crusaders. Mrs. Miller, one of our mentors, won the Mentor Award.

The second event was CAGE Match. Red Alert won the STEMIndy RAGE and CAGE Match Trophies Awareness Award and were champions along with 234-CyberBlue and 5188-Area 5188: Classified Robotics.
